Wishbone Table
Cherry with Walnut accent | 2001

The Wishbone Table marked a turning point in Vicco’s design and furniture construction from traditional linear designs to more sculptural.  Having always been fascinated with the teardrop or wishbone shape, Vicco used this piece to develop it into his signature form, which would later become known as the “von Voss swoop”.   He also shifted his construction process of the swoop from the original method of using bent lamination, to carving the shape from naturally curved pieces of wood by following the movement of the grain. Returning to the roots of his training, Vicco implemented visible traditional joinery, which dovetailed the two arches together.  The contrast of the walnut stretchers and the curved cherry arches added visual interest to the clean-lined piece.
